Eucalyptus, pine needle, ginger and saffron open the spices. Jasmine, orange flower, guaiacwood, cedar and caramel turn the heart, before musk, patchouli, tonka, sandalwood and leather close it in. Bright and spicy at first, deepening over hours, no flame.

Ciandù is Xanadu — Kublai Khan's summer palace, which the Milione describes as marble halls, gilded and painted with beasts and flowers, ringed by a great walled park.
