    Stepping into a leather workshop in the bazaar of Antiochia. The warm dark of the room, the scent that wraps around you before you see the goods.

    Incense, Taif rose, liquorice and rum open the night market. Leather and labdanum take the heart, before sandalwood, suede and ambergris stay long on the skin.

    Antiochia is today's Antakya, in Turkey — a crossroads of the Levant on the road east, where leather, silk and spice changed hands.
